A three-fox party on a tall stump

Gray foxes love sitting on stumps (and rocks, and up in trees – it seems like they’ll do anything to get their little bottoms off the ground). Young gray foxes love tall stumps even more than their elders and betters do. They use them to practice their climbing skills and play king of the hill.

The three fox kits in this video are Dolly and Pale Fox’s offspring, recorded during the summer of 2024. They lived in the magic tree den for about 3 weeks and they were enormous fun to watch. The tree stumps were their favorite playground, and when they weren’t scuffling and trying to knock each other off the tallest of them, they hung out there and enjoyed the view.

This year (2026) we never met Dolly and Pale Fox’s kit or kits. We’re pretty sure they had a litter, and they both seem perfectly healthy and happy, but they must have brought them up elsewhere. Fingers crossed for next year.
