Roadrunner at our water bowl

September 6, 2020

We only occasionally see roadrunners in our yard and it’s been quite a few years since the last sighting. This roadrunner was out on a hot Texas summer day and must have thought a cool drink of water sounded appealing, so it stopped at a water bowl and stayed for a while. It has come back to this bowl several times in the past couple of weeks so perhaps it has moved into the neighborhood? We’re hoping we’ll see it more often.

Although roadrunners are known for not needing to drink water if they’re already getting enough in their food, they apparently enjoy having a drink it is conveniently available. We always keep bowls of fresh water in our backyard for the critters. Sometimes they’re empty when we go to clean and refill them in the morning. That always reminds us how important it is.
