Raccoons never grow out of playing. Adults of other species (including most humans) don’t play much – they put away childish things and they get serious. Raccoons are different; they never quit scuffling and fooling around. Some of the behavior is no doubt sexual, but most of it looks, to us, like good, clean(ish) fun.
The raccoons love to climb to the top of a live oak tree in the backyard and hang out on a nest platform that Dan built for great horned owls. The owls never use it, but the raccoons think it’s cool. They seem to enjoy the view, and the peace and quiet.
The two in this video are youngish males (we think) and they obviously weren’t into peace and quiet, they were into the aforementioned scuffling and fooling around. So that’s what they did. For about an hour.
