Maman: A spider mother and her constellation of babies
March 9, 2021
A delicate, long-legged spider made her home in our hollow log nesting box. One day she appeared carrying a lumpy package and we wondered what it was – perhaps an egg sac? She attached it to her web and we watched to see what would happen.
We didn’t have to wait long to find out. Over the next day or so a myriad of tiny spiders emerged from the sac and climbed out on the web, arranging themselves like stars in the sky.
The mother spider was our very own Maman.
