Deer thinks she’s a donkey

Donkeys have a particular look about them – a smooth, slightly plump sillouhette and upright, forward-pointing ears. We think that this deer, whose name is Aunt Doe (long story), looks like a donkey impersonator.

Temperament-wise, donkeys are known for being cranky and Aunt Doe has been known to be irritable from time to time. She can be a bit donkeyish.

In this little clip, we see her placidly eating out of a hanging bird feeder, apparently oblivious to the skunk at her feet performing clean-up on fallen seeds. A bit surprising for a species that survives by being hyper-alert at all times. Perhaps she thinks the skunk is a shrub.

Her reaction when she realizes that she’s been hanging out with a skunk is a joy to behold – and very, very donkeylike.
