We have about a zillion white-winged doves around here. There are so many that we take them for granted; we hardly ever look at them. It’s our loss, because they’re beautiful birds. (I can see them out on the hanging feeder right now, all nodding at me and saying “Finally, you’ve realized what stunning little creatures we are!”)
Dan videoed this dove sitting on one of his screech owl perches. She stayed still long enough for him to zoom in and get a good close-up view. And then she stretched her wings and revealed the true beauty of her feathers and her absolutely perfect symmetry.
We will never look at white-winged doves the same way again.
